The aim of the game is to correctly predict the scores and outcomes of matches and get yourself on the leaderboard!
Predicting the matches
Predict the end score of all the matches in the tournament/competition. You have until 15 minutes before the start of a match to add or change your prediction.
New upcoming matches will be shown on the add predictions page as the World Cup Tournament progresses.
The scoring
In the group phase the scores at the end of the game are used for the calculation of the scores. For final rounds the score at the end of the game including extra time is used.
Goals in a penalty shoot-out are not taken into consideration.
You get points for predicting the correct winner of the match or prediction of a draw. We call this the toto score. In case you also predict the exact amount of goals scored, you get extra points. We call this the full score. If you got the goals correct you get the extra goal bonus, even if you didn’t get the match result correct (e.g. match ends in 1-1 and you predicted 0-1 you will still get 1 point.
Points are allocated as follows:
5 points (Full Score)
If you have correctly predicted the result e.g. Your prediction is 2-1 and the result is 2-1.
2 points (Toto score)
You have correctly predicted a win but not the correct score (toto score) e.g predict 1-0 and the result is 2-0.
1 bonus point (Goal bonus)
You have predicted the correct number of goals a team will score. e.g predict 3-0 and the result is 3-1
Bonus point questions
You may also see ‘bonus point’ questions from our sponsors, without whom games like this would not be possible. Answer these questions correctly & you will earn extra points! Questions must be answered before a given date and time. The value may be different for every question.
Golden Balls (Multiplier/Joker)
GOLDEN BALLS! – Each player has THREE* ‘Golden Balls’ to use across the whole competition. If you select the Golden Ball (or Joker) icon next to any match, the points you earn for that match will be doubled! You can place the golden ball next to any match, and can change your mind and move it to a different match, as long as that match is still outside of 15 minutes before kick off. After this time, the golden ball is activated and your prediction for the match is locked. Use them wisely! *As there are 16 more teams this year, we have added an extra Golden Ball!
Same ranking?
When multiple players have the exact same amount of points, then the following sorting rules are applied on the ranking (most important one at the top):
- amount of full scores;
- amount of toto scores;
- amount of correct bonus questions.
More Scoring Examples.
The game uses 4 different scores that are rewarded to players for the match predictions they do: full points, toto points, goal bonus and goal difference bonus. The toto points are rewarded if the right match result is predicted (win, loss or draw). A player gets the full score if also the exact amount of goals was predicted.
If you set the goal bonus to anything other than zero (default is zero), then this bonus is added to the scored points if the goals predicted are right; even if the match result was wrong (e.g. result is 2-1 and user predicted 1-1).
If you set the goal difference bonus to anything other than zero (default is zero), then this bonus is added to the scored points if the user predicted the correct winner and the user was right about the goal difference (e.g. result is 2-1 and the user predicted 3-2).
